Christine Alberts has been designing jewellery since 1995. After two years studying Jewellery Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Christine made the switch to Graphic Design. She continued to the Typography Workshop Master’s programme at the ArtEZ Academy of Art and Design in Arnhem. Since 2001 she has been working as a graphic designer in partnership with Patrick Coppens as part of the Coppens Alberts bureau.
Alongside graphic design projects for clients in the realms of fashion, architecture, art and theatre, designing jewellery has remained an important activity for Christine. Graphic design projects entail responding to a given brief, while with her jewellery Christine Alberts enjoys carte blanche, though her fascination with the graphic effect still prevails. Thoughts and ideas about jewellery can arise in an intuitive and investigative manner and are then embodied in a design. A two-, three- or four-part subdivision of the necklace is a recurring theme. Besides the emphasis on wearability and elegance in her pieces, in the transformation from idea to design the structure, size, material and colour of the jewellery play pivotal roles.
